Homeschooling: All Things

School Week of 11-11-13

While learning the bible this week the children picked up a ton about the Trinity.  The Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Unfortunately we did not do a lot of notebooking bible this week. We did more reading and oral discussion.  The children have such a better understanding of what the trinity means and how the Trinity works in our live. This also was our next block in our foundation to building our home on the Rock!

Geography has been a wonderful subject for us this year.  This past couple of weeks we have been learning about South America.  As you can see from the pictures we have labeled all the countries of South America as well as many of the rivers of South America.  One of the other things that we did was to draw several of the flags of South America.  As you can see by the pictures the children did a wonderful job on their flags.  Along with our mapping we included our geography terms paper this week.  Our term was rapids and as you can see by the pictures the children had a wonderful time drawing rapids.

In history we were learning about the empire of Charlemagne.  We of course did our weekly map of Charlemagne’s empire of which is called the Frankish Empire.  This was an extremely large empire  therefore Charlemagne was known as or was referred to as the returning roman emperor.  Why you ask? Because of Charlemagne’s large territory he ruled and his ruling style, people thought that he was very much like the Roman leaders of the past.

Our history project for this week was to make the crown of Charlemagne’s.  He of course was a Christian therefore there is a cross on our crown.  The children had a blast making their crowns and that showing then off. Yea, my little future rulers.

We finished up learning about bears, skunks, raccoons etc this week.  One of the things that we learned about the panda bear was the fact that they have a bone that is used very much like a thumb.  However they cannot use this like the human beings can.  It is strictly used to help tear the leaves from branches. So our project for science was to tie back our thumbs and try to do everyday things without the use of them. LOL! This was so much fun. The kids had fun trying to write, drink etc without the use of their thumbs. Pretty much they cheated a lot of the time. It is hard. The video I posted is just a glimmer of the fun we had.

Well are we went OK this week however next week we are off and running once again with many things to do to prepare for the holidays coming up.  I hope you all had a wonderful week and I will catch you on the flip side.
