It is important to keep accurate records of what you are doing. Your records will help keep you organized and aware of your children’s progress. They will also be verification of your validity as a private homeschool should you ever be questioned. You want to be taken seriously not only for your own sake but for the sake of the entire homeschooling movement, so set up your school as professional as possible and teach with a professional attitude. Remember, you are an educator.
The Private School Affidavit lists the records that are required to be kept by private schools (whether private school satellite programs (PSP) or private home-based schools). If your children are enrolled in a private PSP, the PSP will keep these records for you.
- Copy of Private School Affidavit.
- Attendance record or register for each child. Keep the record up to date.
- Course of study for each child each school year.
- A document listing your faculty (that is, you) and their qualifications to teach.
- Health immunization records or waiver (before student’s sixth birthday).
- Report of Health Examination for School Entry or waiver of Health Check-Up for School Entry (within 90 days of entering first grade).

Remember that each state has different rules and regulations so make sure that you check with your states laws now before the school year begins. The required records above is for the state of California, which is where I live and could be applied to other states too for the most part, but I surely want you all to make sure you check to see if there is anything else you need to add other then what is listed above.
